Rockhill Hermitage is an International Theravada Vipassana Meditation and Dhamma study Centre in Sri Lanka. It was founded by Venerable Bhante Kassapa, who was a disciple of the Most Venerable Agar Maha Panditha Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Maha Nayaka Maha Thera, one of the great spiritual figures of the 20th century who was respected and loved in both the Buddhist and non-Buddhist world.
In 1969 Bhante Kassapa searched for a secluded place for meditation. He found a suitable cave in Rockhill, a remote forest area south of Kandy where he completed a 10 year meditation retreat. Since that time, Rockhill has developed into an Internationally renowned Vipassana Meditation Centre.
Bhante Kassapa was an international renowned meditation master and Dhamma teacher whose wisdom and compassion inspired countless beings. Since Bhante Kassapa passed away, Venerable Sudharma Silmatawa and Venerable Dhammachari Silmatawa, his close disciples of 36 years, continue the lineage by teaching Vipassana Meditation courses in English at Rockhill every month.
